Ruth Mann
I returned to art in 2007 and soon found that soft pastels were my medium of choice. I like to work on a variety of subjects although portraits and figurative work in general are what come most naturally to me. I also love depicting the landscape of places I have been all over Europe as well as here in the UK.
I am a member of the Pastel Guild of Europe, an organisation started with the aim of promoting the wonderful medium of soft pastel and supporting pastel artists throughout Europe.
Soft pastel is pure pigment in a dry form, sometimes with a binder. It contains the same pigments used for high quality watercolour and oil paint. Although a pastel painting is delicate before framing it gives a beautiful sparkle and colour which will last for centuries, if properly preserved behind glass.
My work has been shown in many local exhibitions including the NNAC exhibitions and several pieces now hang in Germany, Belgium, France, Australia and the USA as well as the UK.
