DAVID TALKS

David Talks was educated at the Mercers' School, London and WorcesterCollege, Oxford. He learned Russian during National Service in the Royal Navy (1956-58) and served as a Russian interpreter in the RN Reserve until 1986. He began painting in watercolours while teaching Modern Languages at Gresham's School, Holt, and then at RugbySchool. In 1988 he turned to painting professionally and since then he has painted widely, in France, Italy, North Africa and the Far East.

David has exhibited with the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, and with the Royal Society of Marine Artists, and at the NorwichCastleMuseum. He is a former member of the Coventry and Warwickshire Society of Artists, a past President of the Rugby and District Art Society and a former Chairman of the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle. He is a member of the East Anglian Group of Marine Artists, which holds a biennial exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London, and which has also held exhibitions at Thompson's Gallery, Dover StreetLondon, the Westcliffe Gallery, Sheringham, the Peter Hedley Gallery, Wareham, and at the Pierrepont Gallery in ThoresbyPark, Ollerton.

Since 1998 David has regularly exhibited at the Galerie Lespinasse in Rouen. As part of the Norwich-Rouen twinning link he has arranged exhibitions for East Anglian artists in Rouen and for Rouen artists in Norwich . In 2001 he received a Gold Medal in Rouen for his services to French culture.

David lives in Norwich. He exhibits regularly with the Norfolk & Norwich Art Circle, of which he is Past President. His paintings are on permanent exhibition at the Chrome Gallery in Elm Hill, Norwich.
