CHERRILL EDGINGTON
I found my way to sculpture through pottery in adult education classes. I have always liked drawing animals, even modelling for cake decoration from flowers to animals. But once I started using clay to sculpt there was no turning back.
I have an interest in wildlife and my work has always reflected this. I have done portrait and life sculptures in clay and wax, but find I enjoy sculpting animals in clay.
I have been on courses with sculptors David Cooke and Brendan Hesmondhalgh learning different techniques in sculpting animals and ideas in finishing. Going on these courses has encouraged me to carry on to develop my own style, as I try to give the impression of the animal with their strengths as well as trying to catch the character without too much detail.
Working in clay gives me the freedom to make each sculpture an individual, because I find when doing sculptures for making bronze resin limited editions my work changes as I start to think about working out the mould rather than the sculpture.
